Having seen the movie, I say this to you: Bring your damn Kleenex.

The Fault in Our Stars opens on June 6 and tells the story of the relationship between Hazel Grace Lancaster (Shailene Woodley) and Augustus Waters (Ansel Elgort), two teenage cancer survivors. Will this passion translate into good business for the film? The One Direction movie did only meh at the box office, but that was a concert film. That's perhaps not a surprise considering the fanaticism surrounding the book on which the movie is based, and John Green, the author of that book. Iron Man 3 teaser from 2012, which was fans' first glimpse of that movie, and has been viewed more than 58 million times.īut The Fault in Our Stars trailer, viewed more than 17 million times, has (at the time this post was published) 272,320 likes, representing a deep level of engagement with the material. In views, neither is close to, say, the U.K. (Like me! I’ll admit it.) What remains to be seen is if Green’s elevated teen-talk-it’s not quite Dawson's Creek level, but it approaches that at times-can translate credibly to the screen. It's the Nerdfighters over the Directioners, and, as of this week, the trailer for The Fault in Our Stars has surpassed that of One Direction: This Is Us as the most "liked" movie trailer ever on YouTube. It was written by Spencer Gilbert, Dan Murrell, Gilli Nissim. But, hey, that's what teens want, isn't it? And, y’know, all the adults who read this book, too. The Fault in Our Stars is the 74th episode of Screen Junkies comedy series Honest Trailers. What we see here, though, looks charming enough, if maybe a bit heavy on the Sparksian (as in Nicholas) goopiness. The novel, though, goes into some more darkly existential stuff, if we can call it that, which the film will hopefully address as thoroughly as the book does. This trailer focuses on its pretty leads and their uplifting romance, because that's obviously the movie's biggest marketing hook.

The much buzzed-about film, starring Shailene Woodley as Hazel and about-to-be-huge newcomer Ansel Elgort as her dreamy suitor Augustus, follows these two smart, precocious kids as they meet in a cancer support group and fall in love over snarky banter. Are you a teen? Do you know a teen? Or do you just like teen things? If you’ve answered yes to any or all of those questions, there’s a good chance you will be very excited about this first trailer for The Fault In Our Stars, an adaptation of John Green’s bestselling novel about cancer-stricken teens falling in love.
